Note:
Buildpic: I like the pic in general. It isn\'t greatest render of all times, but it looks very OTA, which is the point. The turret looks stupid, however, hovering above the unit.
Buildpic: 9
Model: The hull looks like a plume, unlike OTA ships. I can't think of any boat in reality that uses this principe because it's quite frankly horrible. The streamline is used to increase the speed without increasing the engine (or muscle) power. This raindrop form does practically the opposite, which is why the entire ship looks completely illogically built. Further on, the outer hull is too thick, check with the crusader and the main deck should have a lot more obstacles than current to make it fit in with the rest in the plant (preferably a simple tube on the left or the right side from the turret to the vent [2]. The texturing is good. Really good [5]. The corpse is good, but I'd preffered if you lowered that turret to deck level. It looks weird hanging so high up [1].
Model: 8
Script: Nothing special to account for.
Script: Not counted
Balance: This unit was hard as hell to review mainly because it's so different. First of all, it's mainly useless against land targets which only the missile can reach (and we all know how powerful the Searchers are, don't we?) and it doesn't tackle ships especially well, but then it totally rules against subs (they won't have a chance), carries a powerful sonar and have the most extreme acceleration among ships. Even the damn Skeeters are mere snails in comparison to these engine's immence powers. Don't get me wrong, it's slower than the Crusader when the Crus finally gets up the speed, but it navigates like a God and can outperform even speeders in tight areas (many islands or many ships, whatever). As you might see, the damage/second ration isn't anything to be proud of really compared to the Crusader's cannon that pulls about 62 d/s on about the same range, but when encountering subs, this ship masters the heavens and does as much as 5 times more damage (that is 125, twice the Crus). As if subs weren't already almost obsolete besides early games on Gods of War. And the gigantic sonar dish completely changes the gameplay. One of this units gives your army a horribly large tactical advantage against the lurking enemy forces, mainly because you no longer have to scout out the Enforces that come into range and start to fire randomly at your ships and all the subs that earlier had the advantage of surprise against your destroyer's weak sonar and could perhaps lob in two or three torpedoes before detected. Well, this unit certainly ends that, and for a trifling price of 500 M. It is very overpowerful, but not because the weapon (that itself is quite nice compared to the costs), but because the acceleration and before all, the insane sonar range.
Balance: 6
My score: I didn't like this unit. It seems to be like there is something really wrong with it somewhere, but I can't really explain what it is. Credit for the original tactic thinking, tho. Another point, is this unit based on the MAD TA Neptune that I reviewed long ago? I get certain vibes out of it, besides the .ufo name "pecker". The hull looks the same, if not identical and the missile turred seems to fit as well. I don't however know if I should or could accept this unit as being an upgrade of the other because besides the small details, they have absolutely nothing in common.
